DMV’s It Boy – A Kid Named Breezy Talks Style, Music and Life

Dior & Debauchery had the chance to sit with the clever and distinguished young hip hop artist – A Kid Named Breezy. The rising talent is creating a buzz in the DMV music scene, running in the same circles as Pusha T and Black Cobain. Behind the roguishly handsome smile and undeniable style, lies a confidence and spirit that money simply cannot buy. Breezy is blessed with the ability to deliver ill beats and charm audiences. Track #10 on his mixtape “Snap Back With A Life Full” is rightfully titled “GQ,”  discusses his innate love for fashion. The lyrics read, “Call me Louis, feeling moody, packing Damier.”

Breezy is West Coast  meets East Coast swag. We’re captivated.

Check out my interview with him below:

D & D: Breezy, what has been the most memorable moment in your career thus far?

Breezy: Definitely performing at the CMJ music event last Fall in New York City. CMJ is a Rocksmith event  so it was a solid career move. I was able to perform and increase publicity. It was an important networking experience.

D & D: What are three words that describe your sound?

Breezy: Different, immaculate, and enjoyable.

D&D: What inspires your music?

Breezy: Definitely my life and things I’ve been through. I’m also influenced by old fashioned hip hop, especially Tupac.

D&D: What are some of your favorite designers?

Breezy: Michael Jordan (big on the basketball culture), Louis Vuitton shoes, and Chanel jewelry. Also, new clothing lines and anything that looks dope to me.

D&D: What advice can you give to other men about style?

Breezy: Be different. I don’t like repetitiveness, if you’re really into fashion it should be different from everyone else. Unique to you.

D&D: What’s the one thing in your closet that you can’t live without?

Breezy: My Jordans. I donated some, but I currently have 30 pairs of Jordans and 40 pairs of sneakers.

D&D: Where do you like to shop?

Breezy: I usually shop online. Some of my favorite websites are Karma loop, Flight Club New York, and Tisa-  which sells hoodies, snapbacks, and vintage. And, of course, Louis Vuitton.

D&D: What is your favorite DC hot spot?

Breezy: I frequent the K street Lounge.

D&D: Besides being a hip hop artist, you’re also a basketball star. How does the game influence your style?

Breezy:  It doesn’t really influence my style… However, I love shoes. My sneakers come from the outlandish looking designs that NBA players release.

Brands I love and the Blogs they Own

If you’re a beauty junkie like me, you’ll know that Sephora is the mecca for the cosmetics industry, offering over 200 classic and emerging brands.

The e-commerce version of the store offers a great video blog called  Sephora TV. Sephora TV offers the latest news on beauty trends, makeup tutorials and brand launches. When compared to Dior & Debauchery, this site is more engaging and uses videos as its primary medium.

To build the most knowledgeable and professional team of product consultants in the beauty industry, Sephora developed the “Science of Sephora.”  The website can identify skin types, has a knowledge of skin physiology, the history of makeup, application techniques, and the science of creating fragrances. Therefore, the website  is definitely more credible than my own. As an extremely social company, Sephora reaches out to its customer base using Twitter, Facebook and YouTube and uses the different platforms to cross-promote information.

The video blog is targeted towards fun-loving women who are interested in beauty trends and fashion. It is transparent that make-up artists and cosmetic professionals create the videos and that they are endorsed by the Sephora brand.

I would recommend checking out Sephora TV, the tutorials are rather engaging and if you are interested in buying the products they are readily available for purchase online.

About Sephora

Sephora is a division of Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH), the world’s leading luxury products group. A visionary beauty-retail concept founded in France by Dominique Mandonnaud in 1970, it was originally referred to as Shop 8. Mandonnaud re-named the concept Sephora in 1993 by merging the Biblical name, Zipporah (Moses’ exceptionally beautiful wife), with the ancient Greek word for “pretty,” or sephos.

Another worthy … highly visual blog: Nasty Gal

Dance, Music, Art… Art as Fashion on the Runway

Music is art. Photography is art. Dance is a fluid form of artwork. Therefore, is fashion considered wearable art? Andy Warhol himself had proclaimed Yves Saint Laurent “le plus grand artiste français de notre temps.”

YSL in Paris 1987

Fashion attests to the human capacity to change,” writes the French philosopher Gilles Lipovetsky in his book, The Empire of Fashion: Dressing Modern Democracy.  ”Fashion is one of the faces of modern artifice, of the effort of human beings to make themselves masters of the conditions of their own existence.”

Designers are artists of the modern age, using fabrics and sequins to create and beautify the canvas of the human body.

Lifestyle & Fashion blog, “Life with Flair” discussed the influence of dance on fashion in her post “Dance.Fashion.Muse.” She explores fashion’s “ongoing love affair with dance” throughout history. Afua cites some fantastic modern examples, such as Beyonce’s new music video for “Countdown.” She also shared the Lanvin Fall/Winter 2011-2012 collection video showcasing models dancing to Pitbull.

To further discuss the connection of dance and fashion, fashion has transformed into an art form. The transition of New York Fashion Week  from the Bryant Park Tents to the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts  started a cultural movement. Lincoln Center even hired a “Director of Fashion” to incorporate “style” and “fashion” throughout the year.

In Summer 2011, The Metropolitan Museum of Art immortalized the late Alexander McQueen in an exhibit called “Savage Beauty.” The exhibit demonstrated McQueen’s greatest works and honored his theatrical flair for fashion.

I also needed to satiate my strange obsession with the NSYNC Holiday album. The cold weather helps justify my desire to listen to this song:

Meet DC IT Girl: Jessica Dunaway

Editor at WheatCityMag.com and Hip Hop Publicist

Dior & Debauchery had the opportunity to interview DC It Girl Jessica Dunaway. Jessica is an editor at Wheat City Mag and a hip hop publicist. Sophisticated, well-traveled, and a staple in the burgeoning DC fashion scene, Jessica is well-connected and always present at the hottest parties.

D&D:  As a hip hop publicist, who are some of your favorite artists?

Jessica: I can’t get enough of Pusha T (who signed on Kanye’s label), Kevin Cossom, Kanye West, Lloyd, Wale, and J. Cole.

D&D: How do you discover new music?

Jessica: I love DatPiff.com. It is a website that offers free mixtapes. I use it to find what’s hot, and current in the hip hop scene. The website allows you to sample before you download. Right now there is a lot of amazing music coming out of DC/Maryland/Virginia area.

D&D: What up-and-coming musicians do you recommend?

Jessica: You have to check out Kid Named Breezy. He’s next big thing coming out of the DMV. You should check out his Youtube page.

D&D: Jessica, you’re always so fabulous! Where you do you like to shop?

Jessica: Neiman Marcus for fashion staples. I adore TheOutnet.com (net-a-porter’s outlet shop) for steals, and of course shopbop.com. I basically own the entire Missoni for Target collection.

D&D: What is your favorite DC Hot Spot?

Jessica: You can find me at POV at the W, Donovan House, and Eden.

D&D: What are your favorite brands?

Jessica: I live in Alexander Wang, J Brand, Jimmy Choo for shoes (always), Chanel, and Elizabeth & James. Never forget diamonds are a girl’s best friend.
